Fox smooth body shocks are built for vehicles that run separate spring and shock configurations rather than a coilover, including solid front axle Jeep Wranglers, classic trucks, and any build where the spring is carried by the axle or frame. Without external bypass tubes, a smooth body shock is simpler to mount, easier to service, and has nothing external that can snag on brush or rocks on the trail, which is exactly why it's the standard recommendation for a solid axle or leaf-spring application that doesn't need position-sensitive, multi-stage damping.
