2.5 Bypass Shocks

2.5" bypass shocks are the most common size for moderately built vehicles, giving enough bypass tube capacity for real high-speed control while still fitting tight mounting locations. The bypass tubes are what set this design apart from a standard shock: each one controls compression or rebound at a specific point in the stroke, so the damping can run soft early in the travel for a comfortable ride, firm up mid-stroke for high-speed stability, and tighten further through the last inches to prevent bottoming or topping out.

A bypass shock trades some of a coilover or smooth body shock's simplicity for that tunable, position-sensitive damping, which is why bypass shocks are the standard choice for serious desert and prerunner builds.
