Which shock fitting can you adjust safely?

Fox, King and Ride Shocks use two types of fittings: JIC fittings and O-ring style fittings.
JIC Fittings feature a rotating nut that seals via a tapered interference inside the fitting (see images below). It’s recommended to depressurize the shock before adjusting a JIC fitting. For minor adjustments, you can carefully loosen the nut while rotating the fitting. Be sure to rotate it quickly under tension and retighten it immediately to minimize fluid loss or air intrusion.
O-Ring Fittings use an internal O-ring to create a seal when fully tightened (see images below). These fittings are more forgiving and can typically be adjusted up to one full turn while the shock remains fully pressurized, without compromising the seal.
Please Note:
-
OEM-fit shocks usually come with pre-routed fittings and hoses. Before making any adjustments, ensure the reservoir is mounted in the correct location to maintain proper routing.
-
Reservoirs can be mounted in nearly any orientation, offering flexibility in placement.
-
Clearance is critical. Make sure remote reservoirs do not come into contact with any part of the vehicle throughout the full range of suspension articulation. For universal-fit applications, it’s best to cycle the suspension with the tires installed to confirm proper clearance.
What if shock oil leaks out? A small amount of oil loss is typically not a major concern. However, if more than a teaspoon of oil leaks from the shock, it’s recommended to have the shock inspected and topped off with oil before driving to ensure proper performance and prevent potential damage.
Where can I go charge my shocks? Off-road shocks can typically be recharged with nitrogen at welding shops, fabrication shops, or even some automotive repair shops. If you’re local to us, we’re happy to assist with nitrogen charging as well.
What Nitrogen pressure do I need in my shocks? FOX= 200psi | KING= 150psi
*AccuTune is not responsible for anyone adjusting their shocks incorrectly, or causing damage. If you are not sure how to make these adjustments, it’s best to have a professional complete the work.Â
